Looking at the requirements, it seems we're back to the state with the Quicksort problem: the score includes timing, but there's potentially significant amounts of IO to be done. With the room assignment problem, it was explicit that the timing was to be based on the actual calculation; why change back to include the IO?

Unlike the sorting problem, they can easily set the number of generations, such that the I/O is a very minor part of the total time. Also, the I/O should be the same for everyone unless you optimize that part too.
