Is AMT support in Ops Mgr/Essentials in the form of an Add-on like for SMS? It is very similar. In the Ops Mgr/Essentials the term used is a management pack, but it is indeed a plug-in adding AMT capabilities, which is similar to what the SMS add-on does. Of course, our management pack has a different set of capabilities.
Is it free? It is indeed free. All you need to do is download the installer from our website and run it.
What products does it snap into? It snaps into Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (Ops Mgr) which is the 2007 version of Microsoft MOM, and into Microsoft System Center Essentials (Essentials), which is similar in many ways to Ops Mgr and is targeted at SMBs.
What is the relationship between Microsoft SCCM and OpsMgr/Essentials? Ops Mgr is the next generation of MOM 2005, and Essentials is a new product for the SMB market, while SCCM is the next generation of SMS 2003. All are part of Microsoft’s System Center suite.
What is the primary purpose of using the management pack with Ops Mgr/Essentials as opposed to using the SMS Add-on with SMS? Essentials is targeted at SMBs, which usually don’t use SMS. Ops Mgr is an enterprise product; however, it has different users than SMS – users that are more help-desk oriented. Ops Mgr provides an easy-to-use monitoring environment that includes thousands of event and performance monitors across hundreds of operating systems and applications, and provides a single view of the health of an organization’s IT environment.
Is there a difference between the feature set and usage of the Management Pack when using it with Ops Mgr and when using it with Essentials, or is it only a matter of the size of the environment? Our feature set is the same for both Essentials and Ops Mgr. The only difference in the management pack’s behavior between Essentials and Ops Mgr is that when used with Ops Mgr it is able to run services on more than one management server.
Is there a list of the types of Intel® AMT events that can trigger alerts? A list of the 33 AMT events that we monitor can be found in the User’s Guide (Chapter 12).
Can I use Kerberos or TLS in "Small Business" mode? No, these security features are available only in "Enterprise" mode.
Why is a black screen displayed during a SOL session as soon as Windows starts loading? Intel® AMT only supports text (ASCII) graphics.
Working with SCS integration, I cannot locate an Intel® AMT machine using IP scan, even though I can connect to the machine using WebUI. Possible cause: The IP address cannot be resolved into the host name. Check the DNS forward/reverse lookup zone.
Working with SCS integration, I can connect to Intel® AMT using a Web browser, but I can’t discover it using the management pack. Cause: In order to successfully discover an Intel® AMT machine using the add-on, the DNS and DHCP servers must be configured correctly. Solution: Make sure that the DHCP server issues a correct IP address to the Intel® AMT machine and updates the DNS server's forward and reverse lookup zones. Also make sure that the hostname specified for Intel® AMT is identical to the one specified for the operating system.
