My XML journeys took me to JavaOne last week.  I am a people watcher, and I have always found it fastening to observe the herd mentality at larger conferences like JavaOne.  The queues for the keynotes, the rush to lunch, and don’t get me started on people eagerly standing in line for some logo laden [...]

Does Intel AMT block remote desktop traffic? Not a chance. Then “why am I not able to remote desktop to and from my Dell Optiplex 755 system after installing all the drivers? I was able to remote desktop to and from this system to any other system on the network before installing the drivers”. We [...]

One of the nice things about OpenSolaris 2008.05 is that it is delivered as a bootable LiveCD. This means that you can try out the OS easily on your computer and see if it will work without risking the OS you are running on it now. Once you decide that all of the [...]

VirtualBox v1.6 - Open Source desktop virtualization

VirtualBox is a great desktop virtualization solution. It's free for personal use / evaluation, runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, Solaris or OpenSolaris, and supports a huge number of guest OS's. The user interface is really well tuned for a simple desktop user, and as UI's go, I think it has some really good context-aware help. I [...]

As many of you may know, there are two ways of contacting Intel AMT: The remote network interface and the local LMS/HECI interface. One of the things that I constantly ask myself is, "What do ISVs want from Intel?". The next question that follows is, "What is Intel able to provide to ISVs?". Just to clear things up, answers to the first question such as; big bags of money, extravagant vacations, unlimited supply of test systems and $2.00/gallon [...]

When The Perfect Is The Enemy Of The Good I've already discussed the benefits to Intel Graphics and HDMI Audio in a previous post, and complained about the HDCP repeater mode bug (still unresolved as of graphics driver release 15.9.2) which forces people to use gray-market software if they want to use Intel HDMI Audio to [...]

The inaccuracy for system time of VMs has been well documented. This behavior has been labeled time drift. Because of the time drift while executing, it is recommended to use NTP. Use LINUX to set up an NTP server within the network of the physical machine(s) being used. This will allow the VMs to sync [...]

I am writing this as myself (stev) and not representing any company or entity. I used and promoted using a virtualized environment back in 2000. Working for another company (Oresis), who has since gone out of business (2002), I was able to shorten build times for the system from 8 1/4 hours to 2 1/2 [...]
